Okay, so I know that I was technically supposed to weave something inspired by my music, but given how long past assignments have taken me when I’ve solely improvised, and given how little time I had on the new loom, I felt a little nervous about going in without any plan…so I drafted out a good chunk of what I wanted to do because I didn’t want to find myself stuck after weaving each pick, frozen and unsure of what to do next. 🙃 Music for Animals was soothing to weave to, nonetheless.
Last year, I bought a book on weaving in the Philippines and was really drawn to binakol, so I was hoping to try weaving something inspired by that!

I wanted to try making something like this, but the way I was interpreting it and given the current tie-up/threading, it seemed like it would require more harnesses…?

The left third of this seemed like something I could loosely adapt to work on our looms, so that’s what I went with!

After creating the draft in AdaCAD, I read in the book that I have that binakol is actually a complex plain weave(?), which I don’t think is what I drafted, but that’s fine! It had already devolved into a pretty loose interpretation, so I just stuck with what I had.

The tabby below my swatch wasn’t quite level for whatever reason, so that was a small challenge I was dealing with — I tried beating the left half of my picks more forcefully to even it out, but it took a few inches before it started to look straight again.

It was a pleasant surprise producing fabric that actually resembled the draft?!
